Bakersfield, CA — On the outskirts of Ashe Road is the Bakersfield Roast Company.
“They drink a cup of coffee and enjoy it [with] All the cups of coffee we sell, those funds we raise, can go to help those in need, “said Mike Ostimmer.
Mike set up a company to help the homeless and raise awareness and funding for organizations working to end trafficking.
“People like the cause. They like to learn and understand. [what] What are profits and profits used for? “Mike said. [roasts] We do so and actually donate 100% of our revenue to those causes. “
Coffee is roasted on site and sold with other drinks and pastries. Customers are encouraged to “prepay” by purchasing tokens to give to the homeless so that they can get coffee.
“What if you or I find a coupon? Mike said,” I just give them what they can use. They can submit it. The cashier receives it and they fully understand. People come and they go, “Thank you for helping me feel that I am human again, you know.”
Mike also wants the coffee shop to be a space for people to connect with each other.
“Unfortunately, they don’t have many people to listen to, so when there are people here and they understand, it gives them a safe place to visit,” he said.
Information about local nonprofits can be found on products such as coffee bags.
“We are looking for different organizations in the community that we can work with just to keep that information out of the public eye,” said Mike.
And he wants to participate in fundraising activities and events.
The shop is located at 6501 Schirra Court. The shop’s soft opening is July 12th and the grand opening is July 19th.
We support community members one cup at a time.
“It’s funny, my friend says,” You don’t even like coffee “… but I like helping people,” Mike said.
