VICTORVILLE, CA (VVNG.com) — New charges, including murder, have been filed against a 26-year-old woman involved in a fatal New Year’s Eve crash in Victorville that claimed her life Marcos Amaya.
According to a sheriff’s statement, Deputy Bennington and Deputy Mata conducted an extensive investigation and on July 26, 2022, criminal charges were filed against Desirae Monique Corralby the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
A Victorville woman was subsequently arrested shortly before 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022, on I-15 near Ranchero Road. She is being held at the West Valley Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail. Her charges include PC191.5(A) Mass Involuntary Manslaughter while intoxicated, VC 20001(B)(2) Hit and Run Causing Death and PC 187 (A) Murder.
Fatal accident:
On Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 12:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a hit-and-run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Hesperia Road in Victorville.
When they arrived, they found the pedestrian, later identified as 42-year-old Hesperia resident Marcos Amaja, down in the roadway and pronounced him dead at 12:04 p.m.
Deputies learned that Marcos was traveling southbound on Bear Valley Road and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Bear Valley Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.
investigation:
Victorville Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) deputies responded and took over the investigation. They determined that Coral was responsible for the fatal accident and arrested her.
Within hours of her arrest, Coral posted bail and was released on $250,000 bond. For nearly eight months, Coral was able to walk freely while the victim’s family waited impatiently for the justice system to prevail.
Ms. Amaya:
Carolina M. Amaya spoke with VVNG after learning that the driver who killed her husband had been arrested and was facing new charges.
“My husband was very loved. Our families were destroyed, our lives changed forever. “No one will ever understand the consequences for children who lose their parents in a catastrophic way until they experience a great loss,” she said.
Carolina shared the following message with her community – “Please don’t drink and drive. Take RESPONSIBILITY for your actions while driving. Don’t run away. There is no closure for families who never get justice in court.”
