The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather warning for Hays County as temperatures continue to fall and rainfall is pouring into the area.

The winter weather warning went into effect on Wednesday at noon and lasts until Thursday at 12 p.m. NWS said icy rain with light glass piles of ice on raised surfaces with bridges, overpasses and elevated corridors is expected to become “very slippery”.

NWS added that winter weather conditions could affect evening or morning travel.

The winter storm shelter was activated

With temperatures approaching freezing overnight, the Southside Community Center will open its emergency shelter for the week, the Hays County Homeless Coalition said.
