Mystery as high school senior’s body found in Mexico 2 years after mom says he was kidnapped & beaten in ransom demand

The body of a teenage boy was found in Tijuana nearly two years after his abduction. Miguel Anthony Rendon, 19, crossed the border into Tijuana to visit his mother in May 2020.

More than two weeks later, the teen returned to Tijuana to visit his girlfriend and surprise his mother, Emma Medrano Gallardo.

Instead of seeing her son, however, Medrano received an exciting call at midnight.

“In Spanish they said, ‘Lady, we have your son.’ We need so much money, “she said.

The mother said she was in disbelief until a subsequent video call confirmed her worst fears.

“My heart just stopped beating,” Medrano said. “He was bound and bloody with his face. He could barely speak.”

The next day, Medrano’s ex-husband handed over the ransom to the Tijuana border while she waited at another location for her son, as she was told to do.

“It was horrible. Every minute it was like days,” she said.

Despite waiting more than six hours, however, no one showed up. Medrano said it was a permanent heartbeat.

“Hope to get a phone call every day, but we never did,” she said.

The abduction was reported to Mexican authorities and the FBI, Medrano said, and she led multiple searches for her son using non-profit organizations.

“That moment, it was like, my hope is gone, but it was finally like a relief,” she said. “I’ll get him back and know where he is.”

The mother says she has no idea why her son was targeted. Miguel was an athlete and senior at Hoover High School in San Diego. He would graduate that spring with plans to join the Marines.

“He always smiled, funny. He had learning disabilities and was a student of special education, but he had goals, and now he will not be able to live his life,” Medrano said.

She hopes that there is justice in the tragedy, “that they can not do this with another or other children.”

IN GoFundMe was made by Miguel’s family. The teenager is described as a “pillar in his bowl, who constantly shows love for his mother and wants only the best for his siblings.”

“Let’s come together to help us shower his family in this time of unimaginable loss,” the site reads.

However, Medrano said she received a phone call asking for a ransom after her son was abducted.
