“We had received information that he was on the run and we obviously assumed he was armed, so we had MPs who were doing a great deal,” said Tony Botti of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. “Fortunately, as soon as our helicopter took the stage, they picked it up very quickly, running through one of the rows of enclosures.”
Deputies say they have arrested 22-year-old Eduardo Amaya. They say it has a history with law enforcement.
“He is believed to have fired a gun,” Botti said. “We are still looking for it.”
Many victims were taken to hospital. The sheriff’s office will not confirm how many or their circumstances as they wait to talk to family members.
Officials did not disclose what led to the shooting or how the gunman and the victims were related.
“There’s a good chance there’s some kind of family relationship – we just don’t know how many of them and the suspect’s exact relationship,” Botti said.
Officials describe the people who were shot as innocent victims ranging in age from 20 to 50 years old.
“We did have a teenager and a toddler here at the time,” Botti said. “Fortunately they were not injured, so the teenager is someone we need to talk to.”
We spoke to a man who says he is a friend of the family who lives at home and helped them get ready for a fishing line party at the weekend.
He says, before he knew it, shots were heard and he says that a bullet lost him for a few centimeters.
He is the one who called 911 and said that the deputies arrived in less than five minutes.
We look forward to learning more about the condition of these victims on Friday.
