A large fire in the hotel that was built California saw the closure of one of the state’s most important highways.

The US-101 was shut down in Camarillo because the fire sent massive plumes of smoke and enormous flames stopped traffic on the route on Tuesday night.

The inferno was first reported just after 7pm at the Camarillo Outlet Mall.

One driver who made video of the fire commented on how he could feel ‘the heat’ as he drove past.

The hotel was part of a project known as the Mian Plaza and Convention Center.

The construction project was to see the development of two Hilton hotels with nearly 300 rooms along with a 17,500-square-foot conference center.

By 9 p.m., the fire appeared to be out with crews on sight muffling the hotspots as an investigation began into what caused the fire.
