Movie and film workers might be headed towards a strike

HOLLYWOOD (KABC)-The International Alliance of Theatrical Film and Theater Trade Unions or IATSE is seeking a strike approval vote.

IATSE is a union that represents many people behind the scenes of television and filmmaking, including costume designers and audio technicians.

Although the IATSE is in talks with the Coalition of Film and Television Producers, IATSE’s leadership does not feel that the current proposals adequately reflect the needs of their workers.

The big items on their list are better wages and more reasonable time.

“I think many crew members want to be respected as human beings, and we need to confirm that in the workplace and in contracts,” said Marisa Shipley, Vice President of Local 187.

Hashtags that support union workers have become popular on social media such as #IA Solidarity and #IALivingWage.

“Therefore, if the strike is finally called, it would mean that all of us working under the controversial contract would quit their jobs immediately,” said Shipley.

This will further delay the crew and production companies while dealing with the setbacks caused by COVID.

A representative of the Alliance of Film and Television Producers was unable to respond to the interview, but issued a statement that the rest period would be significantly improved and the minimum price would be significantly increased.
