Traffic on Highway 10 heading west from Indio was predictably slow on Monday, April 18, a day after the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
“Betting on how many hours I’m going to be sitting in this bus traffic back to LA,” one person wrote about noon.
At noon, the Caltrans Quickmap showed a solid red for the westbound lanes to halfway from Banning to Beaumont and then north on the 10th through Cherry Valley.
Caltrans spokeswoman Terri Kasinga recommended alternative routes for local travelers in India. Drivers traveling further afield could use Highway 111 through Palm Desert and Palm Springs to connect with Highway 10. Drivers traveling to Orange County or south of Riverside County could take alternate routes on Highway 74.
Festival goers will have a second chance to go out at a more opportune time next Monday after the second weekend of the event from April 23-24.
“If they leave at 6 in the morning, they might not get so stuck in traffic,” Kasinga said.
