A mother and daughter were prosecuted on Wednesday for murder in connection with the death of a woman who underwent an illegal operation for a car lift in Los Angeles.
Libby Adame, 52, and Alicia Galaz, in their mid-twenties, both wearing ankle monitors, appeared before Judge Anne Hwang at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles.
The operation took place in a private home in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles in September 2020. None of the women had the proper medical education.
Karissa Rajpaul, 26, underwent three separate operations and died immediately after the third procedure on October 15, 2020.

Adame and Galaz have both been charged in connection with the operation, which took place in a private house in the Encino district of Los Angeles in September 2020.

Karissa Rajpaul, 26, underwent three counter augmentation procedures and died immediately after the third in October of 2015.
Libby Adame and her daughter, Alicia Galaz, are both accused of the operation
Police say Adame and Galaz were not trained or licensed in any way to perform these operations.
“These individuals do not have medical training,” said LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton. “They have no experience and they endanger people’s lives.”
Authorities fear that there may be more victims of these illegal procedures.
“When we investigated this investigation, we found it to be very common,” said Detective Bob Dinlocker. ‘The internet is full of these horror stories where they cut the medical grade silicone with the stuff you would use to smash your windows.’
Dinlocker adds that some of the chemicals are not even meant for human use and can attack your heart, brain or kidneys.
She shared a video of herself on social media during the operation, which was intended to help her with her work in the adult film industry after she moved to California from South Africa
The detective says that Adame and Galaz would take supplies to private homes without taking into account typical standards and practices.
If something went wrong, Dinlocker claims that the suspicions will disappear, prompting paramedics to go to an unknown medical emergency.
‘I’ve seen these patients,’ says Board Certified Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Dr. AJ Khalil. He says injecting liquid silicon into our buttocks not only illegally, but that it can be deadly.
“There are implants that go into the buttocks, but they are solid,” says Khalil, adding that even those types of implants are not common practice. But what the injection of liquid silicon – which he says is often mixed with motor oil – is against the law.
Rajpaul’s treatment was performed by Adame and Galaz without any prior medical training or license
People seek treatments from less reputable sources at lower prices than what professionals charge.
Adame and Galaz charged Rajpaul $ 3,500 to $ 4,000 for her operation, while a board-certified contraption would run her anywhere from $ 10,000 to $ 15,000, according to NBC4.
Brazilian ailments in the United States increased about 77 percent between 2015 and 2019, according to a survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
However, they have the highest mortality rates under plastic surgery.
The police say that if you are the victim of this, even though it is shameful to admit it, they want to hear from you.
