Monkeypox in California: Sacramento Co. health officials investigating 1st likely case related to travel in Europe

The patient under investigation recently traveled to areas of Europe where smallpox cases of monkeys have been confirmed and is currently in isolation at home.
The traveler had no contact with other people. Officials say the risk to the general public is very low.
Health officials say the CDC confirmation test is pending, but based on symptoms and preliminary tests, a confirmed case of smallpox is possible.
A Massachusetts resident who tested positive for smallpox was the first rare case of the virus to be detected in the United States this year.
