Mexico bans sales of ‘harmful’ e-cigarettes

Mexico on Tuesday banned the sale of electronic cigarettes and other vaping devices due to concerns about their health effects, the government said.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the claim that cigarettes were a safe alternative to snuff was “false”. never smoke.

Lopez Obrador told reporters while announcing the signing of the presidential decree that introduced the International No Smoking Act.

“Look at the color, the design,” said Lopez Obrador.

Mexico banned the import and export of vaping and ammunition devices in October, but the companies continued to sell their products, according to Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell.

The new ban applies to “advertising and marketing of these new products,” he said.

E-cigarettes are hot water shells usually carrying nicotine and other chemicals into the air. The user inhales the resulting steam, imitating it traditional cigars.

Proponents of vaping say it is safer than traditional tobacco.

The World Health Organization considers it electronic cigarettes to be harmful to health and called for stricter measures to prevent young people from using them in particular.

More than 30 countries have banned the sale of electronic cigarettes, the WHO said in July.

In April, the tobacco company Juul agreed to pay $ 22.5 million in a lawsuit filed by the United States, alleging that the company deliberately targeted young people and lied about how its products were tested.
