Melissa Lucio’s supporters hold nationwide rallies days before scheduled execution

HOUSTON, Texas – Supporters on Saturday rallied in 16 cities across the United States in a bid to save Melissa Lucio’s life.

Lucio was sentenced to death for the murder of Mariah’s 2-year-old daughter in South Texas in 2007.

During Saturday night rallies, organizers plan to collect signatures from Texas Grace and Parole Council as well as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in Austin on Monday.

Rallies are scheduled in Houston, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Brownsville, Cleveland, Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Greensboro, NC, Harlingen, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, DC.

The Houston Rally was scheduled for 12 noon Saturday at Guadalupe Plaza on Runnels Street.

Lucio’s supporters say she was pressured to admit to beating Mariah to death.

Lucio later said the child fell from a ladder a few days before rescuers rushed him to hospital.

Lucio’s execution is scheduled for April 27.

Governor Abbott could intervene and delay the execution. It could also be lenient if a majority of the state apology and release council votes in favor.
