Eating unprocessed red meat or processed meat after diagnosis is not associated with an increased risk of cancer or death in patients with stage 3 colon cancer, according to a study published in web on February 22nd. JAMA Network Open.
Erin L. Van Blarigan, Sc.D., from the University of California at San Francisco, and colleagues examined whether drinking red wine was not controlled. meat or meat processing is associated with risk cancer recurrence or mortality in patients with colon cancer. The study included 1,011 patients with type 3 colon cancer registered in the Cancer and Leukemia test (1999 to 2001, with follow-up 2009).
The researchers found that in a 6.6-year median age, there were 305 deaths and 81 relapses without death. No association was observed between consuming unprocessed red meat or processed meat after the detection of colon cancer and the risk of recurrence or death (risk factor). [HRs] because recurrence of cancer or death while comparing the highest and lowest mass of tissue: HR, 0.84 [95 percent confidence interval (CI), 0.58 to 1.23] for unprocessed red meat; HR, 1.05 [95 percent CI, 0.75 to 1.47] for processed meat). Findings were consistent for all-deaths (HR, 0.71) [95 percent CI, 0.47 to 1.07] for unprocessed red meat; HR, 1.04 [95 percent CI, 0.72 to 1.51] for processed meat).
“These findings suggest that unprocessed red meat and processed meat after detection of colon cancer are not associated with recovery time or death,” the authors wrote.
