Chula Vista, CA — On Friday night, dozens of friends, family and community members gathered to pay tribute to Maya “May” Milete. The group gathered for the first time since her husband, Larry Milete, was charged with murder.

Milete, 40, was arrested and charged with one murder and one murder this week. Illegal possession of assault weapons.. He pleaded not guilty on both charges. If convicted, he may face life imprisonment.

Maya hasn’t been seen near her home in South Bay since January 7. Her family has been scrutinizing the area for over nine months, looking for and hoping for her signs, but found nothing.

Maya’s sister, Maricris Druye, joined the San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephen and Chula Vista police at a moving press conference on Tuesday when Larry’s arrest was announced.

Talking to FOX5 on Friday, Drouaillet said he asked Stefan if he was confident that Maya was gone “because I still wanted it.” Not only does the investigator believe that her sister is gone, but she wraps herself in the difficult development that a man she has known for 20 years may be in charge of it. He says he is having a hard time.

“We loved him,” she said. “My sister loved him, and he is still my niece and nephew’s father. That wouldn’t change. It’s a shame he did what he did to my sister.”

“(We) really hope and pray that he will change his mind,” Drouaillet said. “Just do it for his kids and his kids will know where their mom is.”

The search for Maya’s family will continue this weekend. The search on Saturday will take place at 8:30 am in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, a well-known area of ​​the Milete family, about two hours away from Chula Vista’s home.
