Livermore man gets 5 days in jail for killing woman in 2022 DUI crash
DUBLIN — A Livermore man who was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter has been sentenced to probation and a brief jail stint for killing a pedestrian in a 2022 crash in Dublin, court records show.
In a deal with Alameda County prosecutors, 43-year-old Giovanni Fissore pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of drunk driving causing injury. The charge carries a maximum of a year in jail, but Fissore was sentenced to five days of jail and ended up spending three days in the Alameda County Sheriff’s work alternative program. The program allows people to spend eight to 10 hours per day doing work in lieu of jail time, and is available for “low risk offenders,” according to court records.
Fissore must also attend an 18-month DUI program and spend three years on court probation, records show.
Fissore was charged last January in connection with a July 31, 2022 crash in Dublin. According to court records, Fissore was driving on Dougherty Road with his wife and 2-year-old child in the car when he struck and killed 39-year-old Roni Gage. Fissore later told police that he had two glasses of wine earlier in the evening and was talking to his wife, and didn’t notice Gage crossing the street until it was too late.
Fissore failed two sobriety tests and told police he believed he was going 35 to 40 miles per hour at the time of the crash, according to court records. He was originally charged with felony vehicular manslaughter.
