Marvel and the MCU Phase 5 and Phase 6: All Your Questions Answered

At San Diego comic con End of July, Wonder dropped reveal some bombs not just shots of upcoming ones movies how Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverbut his entire upcoming slate of TV shows and movies in the coming years. Marvel announced so much that it almost felt overwhelming, especially if you’re a casual moviegoer with only a passing interest in superhero movies.

We are here to help. Here are some answers to questions you might have after finding out that Marvel is releasing a million different movies and TV shows in the next three or so years.

What is the Multiverse Saga?

In addition to announcing not one, but two new Avengers movies – Avengers: The Kang Dynastyfor release on May 2, 2025 and Avengers: Secret Wars Slated for Release November 7, 2025 – Marvel also announced the title of the Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline, which spans stages 4 through 6. That name is The Multiverse Saga.

What does that mean?

Well, Marvel is very interested in phasing its release schedule. The first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with films like the first iron man and the third phase ended with films like Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Marvel refers to the first three phases of its Marvel Cinematic Universe stories as The Infinity Saga.

The Multiverse Saga is simply Marvel’s name for the movies and TV shows featured in phases 4 through 6. That starts with movies like Black Widow and Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings and will probably end with upcoming phase 6 movies like Avengers: Secret Wars.

Who is Kan?

Kang is a Marvel supervillain who will become a major focus in Marvel movies in Phases 5 and 6. He makes his debut in the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The next Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has his name in the title!

Played by Jonathan Majors, Kang is a time traveler with multiple aliases in different Marvel Universes. So expect this to play the whole multiverse aspect of movies and shows in The Multiverse Saga. Fun Fact: The character Kang has appeared in a Marvel show before. He is an alternate version of He Who Remains that appeared in the July 2021 Loki finale.

What are the Secret Wars?

The fifth Avengers film, Avengers: Secret Wars, will almost certainly be based somewhat on The Secret Wars, a highly successful 12-issue Marvel Comics crossover series that was published in 1984-1985. She featured a wide range of heroes from the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, as well as individual heroes such as Spider-Man. In summary: All played a role in the secret wars. The series’ villains included the likes of Doctor Doom and – yes – Kang.

Connecting the dots here means that Avengers: Secret Wars will most likely tie into upcoming films like the new Fantastic Four movie that Marvel announced as part of the Phase 6 launch. Fantastic Four is slated for release on November 8, 2024, ahead of the two Avengers films, which are currently slated for a 2025 release.

But there is a second Secret Wars comic book series that was released back in 2015. As always, the MCU does its own unique thing, but most likely the upcoming movies will feature elements of all of these comics. However, some people believe that the newer Secret Wars series is better suited to adaptation in the current form the MCU seems to be taking.

What’s happening with Fantastic Four?

Fantastic Fourare the only Phase 6 movies or shows announced so far, aside from the two newly announced Avengers movies. As mentioned above, it’s slated for release on November 8th, 2024 and may set the stage for those Avengers movies.

No casting or director has been announced yet, but fans have been clamoring for John Krasinski in the role. We think that would be a good choice. It’s worth noting that Krasinski has already had a cameo appearance as Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
