Man on scooter leads multiple squad cars on police chase

A video that has more than 400,000 views on social media shows police chasing a man on an electric scooter this week. Christine Brocklehurst shared the video with Wisconsin’s sister station, WISN. The West Allis Police Department confirmed that the video shows police on Tuesday morning chasing the scooter near 81st and Orchard Streets. In the video, at least four cars of the team follow the scooter with lights on and sirens. The man on the scooter shouts something at the person being recorded from the sidewalk. Police said they started Tuesday at 9:50 a.m., near 87th Street and West National Avenue, when a sergeant saw the man on the scooter doing over 40 mph. Police said the sergeant tried to stop the scooter, but the man did not stop. According to police, the scooter continued to head north on 89th Street and the railroad tracks, then fled east, eventually making its way back to the road. West Alice police said officers continued to chase the scooter and watched as it ran multiple stop signs and traveled 25 to 35 miles per hour on the sidewalk, trying to escape police. Police said they arrested the scooter driver, a 21-year-old man from Milwaukee, near 77th Street and Greenfield Avenue, for running away and resisting a police officer. The Milwaukee County Attorney’s Office will investigate the case.
