Man killed in crash while delivering groceries identified

Encinitas, Calif. (CNS) – Authorities announced on Thursday the names of a man who died in an accident while delivering groceries in Encinitas.

Escondido’s Michael Dougherty, 62, left the apartment complex at 900 blocks of Encinitas Boulevard at the 2007 Toyota Corolla and stopped in the south-facing lane of the road. Toyota Tacoma attacked around 7 pm on ThursdayAccording to the San Diego County Medical Inspector’s Office.

The pickup hit the driver’s door, the vehicle slipped across the street and stopped at a rim, Coroner said.

Dougherty was trapped in his car and declared dead on the scene when rescuers from the Encinitas Fire Department arrived. The sheriff’s department did not report any other injuries.

Dougherty had just delivered groceries at the time of the crash.

The San Diego County Security Office is investigating the cause. Agents say drugs and alcohol do not seem to be a factor.
