Man driving under the influence of drugs pleads guilty to fiery, fatal head-on crash –

EL CAJON (KOUSI) – A man who pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and causing a fiery, deadly frontal accident on the Jamul Highway was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in prison.

David James San Nicholas, 35, pleaded guilty to brutal manslaughter while he was drunk and other charges for causing the death of Sabah Aso, 64, on August 3, 2019.

In San Nicolas court, Deputy Attorney Cally Bright claimed the defendant was “significantly under the influence of methamphetamine” when he drove into opposite lanes on State Route 94 just before 1 p.m. that day, hitting his vehicle in the front. Aso.

The collision drove Aso’s vehicle under an embankment, where it overturned and engulfed in flames, according to the California Highway Patrol. Aso died on the spot and the collision triggered a fire that blackened about an acre of brush.

San Nicolas was also seriously injured in the collision, suffering a fractured femur and lumbar bone, Bright said.
