Prosecutors charged a 29-year-old man at his home in Beverly Hills on Monday with a deadly shot by philanthropist Jacqueline Avant, wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant.

Mayor Ariel has also been charged with attempted murder of Avants guards who were allegedly shot but not injured during the robbery on December 1.

The mayor’s prosecution is scheduled for Tuesday. It was not immediately clear if there was a lawyer who could speak for him.

“Mrs. Avant was an important member of our community. Her generosity and goodwill have influenced many,” District Attorney George Gascon said in a news release.

The mayor is also charged with one count of felony with a firearm (a pistol with a long barrel of assault) and two counts of burglary with people. He had previously been convicted of felony for assault, robbery and massive theft and was released on parole at the time of the shooting.

Police were called to Avants’ house on December 1 after a call at 2:23 am reporting the shooting. Police officers found Jacqueline Avant, 81, who had a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

An hour later, a Los Angeles Police Department officer was called to the Hollywood Hills home to report the shooting. It is about 7 miles (11.27 km) from Avant House. They found evidence of robbery there with the mayor and his house and detained him.

The mayor accidentally shot his foot while invading a house in Hollywood Hills. The LAPD surveillance commander contacted the Beverly Hills investigators “two and two together.”

Jacqueline Avant was a longtime local philanthropist who led organizations to support low-income areas such as Watts and South Los Angeles, and was a board member of the International Student Center at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Avant’s daughter, Nicole Avant, is married to film producer, former US ambassador to Bahama, and Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Salandos.
