Supreme Court denies Trump’s plea to intervene in Mar-a-Lago case

WASHINGTON (AP) — On Thursday, the Supreme Court denied former President Donald Trump’s petition to launch a legal battle over the FBI’s search of his Florida property.

The judge had no further comment on dismissing Trump’s emergency appeal.

Mr. Trump was pressuring the court on issues related to classified documents seized in a search authorized by a federal judge in Mar-a-Lago.

Trump’s team overturns lower court’s ruling and says about 100 classified documents obtained in Aug. 8 Mar-a-Lago search will be reviewed by independent arbitrators or special masters I asked the judge to allow it.

Last month, a three-judge panel in the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit Court of Appeals limited its review of the special master to a much larger tranche of unclassified documents. Judges, including two Trump-appointed judges, sided with the Justice Department, arguing that the special master had no legal basis for conducting its own review of classified records.

However, Trump’s attorneys said in their application to the Supreme Court that the special master had access to classified records and “whether or not the documents bearing the classification mark are in fact classified, and whether or not they are related to classification.” It is imperative to determine whether those records are personal records, rather than Or the record of the president.

In a Supreme Court filing, the Justice Department said Trump’s request was without merit.

The FBI says it seized about 11,000 documents during the search. Trump’s team asked Florida Judge Eileen Cannon to appoint a special master to conduct an independent review of the records.

Cannon then appointed a veteran Brooklyn judge, Raymond Deary, to review the records and segregate what might be protected by attorney-client privilege and enforcement privilege claims. urged the 11th Circuit to side with the Department of Justice, challenging its ability to review classified records.
