Man arrested for taking money from lock box at Davis Islamic Center, police say

A man was arrested Wednesday morning after breaking into the Davis Islamic Center and trying to fish for money from a lock box inside, police said. Davis police responded to reports of the burglary at 8:30 p.m. at the Davis Islamic Center. Police said officers had access to a live stream of cameras inside the building and were able to see the suspect “fishing for money from the lock box and putting it in his pocket”. arrested a little later. The suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Ashraf Hegaz of Hemet, was arrested shortly afterwards.

He was held in Yolo County Jail on charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
