Lucky Charms illness: FDA investigating General Mills cereal after reports of consumers complaining of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting

The US Food and Drug Administration is investigating Lucky Charms cereals after dozens of customers complained of illness after eating them.

The FDA said Saturday it has received more than 100 complaints about Lucky Charms so far this year.

“The FDA is taking seriously reports of possible food adulteration that could also cause illness or injury,” the agency said in a statement.

Hundreds of people have also posted on a food safety website, iwaspoisoned.comcomplain of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting after eating Lucky Charms.

General Mills Inc., the Minneapolis-based company that makes Lucky Charms, Cheerios and other cereals, said it was aware of the allegations and was taking them seriously. However, the company said its own investigation found no evidence of Lucky Charms-related consumer illness.

General Mills said it encourages consumers to share their concerns directly with the company.
