Long sandy beach
The idea of an earthquake is not far away for the residents of Long Beach, and the city is conducting a Great Shakeout Earthquake Training at 10:21 am on Thursday, October 21st to help prepare for the next earthquake.
According to a statement from the city’s Disaster and Emergency Liaison Department, this training is an opportunity for citizens to prepare and practice what to do in the event of an earthquake.
People can register at www.shakeout.org/register and practice the four steps to take in the event of an earthquake. Cover your head and neck and crawl under a table or desk. Press and hold until the shaking stops.
According to the release, seniors, people with disabilities and others with special needs should check the Earthquake Response Guide at www.earthquakecountry.org/accessibility.
Here are some other tips for preparing for an earthquake: Prepare a go-bag with enough supplies to last up to 5 days. Read the Earthquake Countermeasures Guide available at earthqukecountry.org for information. Sign up for the city’s emergency notification system at www.alertlongbeach.com and stay alert.
