Long Beach Offering Commercial Rent Assistance – NBC Los Angeles

Long Beach SMEs can now apply for commercial real estate rental assistance through the city’s Commercial Rental Assistance Grant Program.

According to a statement from the City of Long Beach, the program is designed to support companies that “have lost their income as a result of COVID-19 and state and local health orders that have restricted operations.”

The application period for the program begins at noon on Friday, June 11th and ends at 5pm on Thursday, July 22nd. To qualify, the company must do the following:

  • Become a for-profit business with Long Beach as your business.
  • I have a long beach business license.
  • There are less than 50 full-time employees.
  • I have experienced financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, state and local health orders.
  • You currently have a physical location with an active commercial lease.
  • I’m in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Area..
  • Observe local health orders.
  • It is not completely closed.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents at the time of application.

  • Current commercial rental / rental contract.
  • Landlord contact information.
  • W-9; Request for taxpayer ID number and certificate.
  • A copy of your photo ID.

If the business is approved for a grant, the payment will be made directly to the tenant of the commercial space to assist in the payment of the rent.

The award does not include property tax or utility bills. It only includes “rent costs and costs payable under a commercial lease”.

The program includes a total of approximately $ 1.5 million and a total of $ 4,000 in grants is available. Funding comes from the third round of emergency grants from the Federal Coronavirus Assistance, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG CV-3) Allocation.

“SMEs are still recovering from the pandemic, and many are in need of more help on their way to recovery,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “This program helps fill the rent for many of our moms and pop businesses.”
