I usually start and end my day the same way: I look at my phone a little longer than I should. There are so many of them TikToks viewable, so many open emails, so many doomsscrolling turn in. Together with a five-day work week, it’s not an actual winning formula. I suspect you, dear reader, are in the same place.
That’s where the Loftie alarm clock comes into play. While the slick, shiny device is a technically smart watch, it’s refreshingly understated. (It only has three buttons, a speaker, and a small screen that shows the time.) Loftie is a barrier between you and your smartphone, helping you access better glance working on it. In addition, it is also a white noise machine and a warm, dimmable night light.
What really makes this happen alarm clock so special is its way of waking you up. The Wi-Fi compatible device uses a two-phase alarm; the first lulls you from a deep sleep with a soft voice, then the second completely wakes you up nine minutes later with a continuous alarm. It’s not iPhone radar (bless) – you can choose from three melodic sounds that will really make you get up and face the day. (My favorite is Radiationwhich sounds like a gentle awakening during a holiday.) The brand claims that this feature mimics people’s way naturally wake upand it really helps me feel more refreshed every morning.
I would like my Loftie watch just because of the alarm clock, but its advanced features also make going to bed even better. Each device is pre-loaded in a relaxing environment soundscapes (including rain, campfire and ocean) and six different white noise options. There is also a well-being sound guided meditationssound baths, breathing work classes, Evening Tales for Kids or Adults, and songs from classical music, though I haven’t researched them all. And the brand is constantly updating its library, which means new sleep-enhancing content isn’t running out.
For clarity: The Loftie alarm clock is not perfect – installation can be frustrating even for people who have installed their own router. Button controls are difficult to access, especially if you’re used to tapping the glass screen. The app leaves a lot to be desired, and (thankfully rarely) updates take much longer than you expected. And of course, the $ 149 price tag is quite an investment in an alarm clock.
However, the thoughtful details make Loft stand the test of time. Its soothing alarm makes me feel like I’ve gotten it better sleepand its deep sound library helps me fall asleep without an air conditioner or humidifier hum in the background. Its brown light isn’t quite a Reading Light, but it’s bright enough to make sure you get to the bathroom without your toes penetrating on the way. It even has a rechargeable battery to help it continue to operate in the event of a nighttime power outage. When it comes to these things, this watch is largely a definition of useful technology.
