Two hospitalized after explosion at Lake Elsinore minor league stadium

Two people were taken to hospital after a gas explosion occurred Friday afternoon at the Lake Elsinore Minor League baseball stadium.

Authorities have received reports of an explosion at Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium, or storm stadiumAround 4:21 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department and the California Fire Department.

Two people suffered burns and were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The stadium is home to the San Diego Padres Single-A affiliate, the Lake Elsinore Storm.

The stadium was evacuated and the Storm’s game against the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night was postponed.

“Today’s and tomorrow’s matches are postponed until further notice due to an incident at the stadium.” The team made the announcement on Twitter.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The local gas company was notified and responded to the scene.

The San Diego Padres released the following statement regarding the incident:

“Tonight’s game at Lake Elsinore has been postponed due to an accident at our home clubhouse. will provide assistance to those affected by the Storm and the incident, and will provide game schedule updates as needed.”
