LATINAfest celebrates entrepreneurs, sets scene for connection, growth, networking, empowerment

Los Angeles (KABC)-In commemoration of Hispanic Cultural Heritage Month, this weekend’s local festival will make Latina entrepreneurs feel connected, growing and blessed.

Growing up on the riverside, Monica Mohammady is a business owner who lives one of her dreams. She put her passion and creativity into planning the event.

“It was my passion to always make really beautiful decorations, balloons and backgrounds and make people feel really happy,” Mohammedi said.

Mohammady credits as daughter of parents of immigrants from Colombia and Iran LATINAfest She started Balloons and Blooms as a place to help her grow up in her first year.

“They definitely opened a lot of doors to me. They really taught me how to be confident, especially by meeting people with a booth there. I only have connections with these women, “Mohamedi said.

LATINAfest is an annual gathering of entrepreneurs founded by two LA graduates, Naibe Reynoso and Bel Hernandez, who combine journalism and media experience.

“The festival is about empowerment, it’s about passion, it’s about networking, and it’s about Latin Americans helping Latin Americans,” Hernandez said.

“Connect with other Latinos, respect our culture, buy things that are culturally relevant to us, and discover Latino-owned brands,” Reynoso explained.

The duo will record the talk show “The Trend Talk” at the LATINA fest and will also provide resources for beginners. For Mohammady, it was also an opportunity to connect with her Latina roots.

“I don’t speak Spanish very well, but being around the people who helped me out of my comfort zone and speaking Spanish allows me to speak Spanish better. “I will,” said Mohammady. “Meeting other female business owners was very helpful. It was great because it was my background, people of my culture.”

“I’m very happy to know that we’re making something that Latina can feel blessed with,” Hernandez said. “Where we are not victims, as you know, it is not depicted as a place where you can feel that you belong or are blessed in a stereotypical way.”
