LAPD officer wounded in shooting outside Newton Division police station in South Los Angeles

South Los Angeles (KABC)-Los Angeles Police Department police officers were scratched Thursday morning in a shooting outside the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton District station in southern Los Angeles, officials said.

At least one suspect was detained in connection with a shooting at around 5 am on South Central Avenue’s 3400 block, according to the LAPD.

The injured police officer was able to go to the fire station opposite the police station for treatment, police said. He is later taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Police pickup trucks were partially seen on the sidewalk in front of the police station after jumping over the curb. One of the vehicle windows shattered.

The shooting prompted a large-scale reaction from the victim’s fellow police officers. They set boundaries in the area and detained the suspect a few blocks away from the scene.

In the pre-dawn time, some investigators searched the streets with flashlights, looking for apparently used shell casings and other evidence.

The identities of the injured police officer and suspect were not immediately revealed.
