Lake Matthews — Real estate owners shot dead a former resident for self-defense during a quarrel in the unincorporated community of Lake Matthews, sheriff officials said Sunday.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, it happened Thursday at 9:10 pm at 21000 blocks of Harford Park Lane.
Sgt. Richard Carroll said the former resident physically threatened the real estate owner.
“During the conflict, property owners used guns against perpetrators for fear of their safety and the safety of their families,” he said.
Ned Cornish, 39, a former resident of Peris, was sentenced to death on the scene despite lifesaving efforts by the first responders.
The sheriff said the investigation was ongoing but no arrests had been made, as the shooting appeared to have been self-defense.
