Lackland AFB in San Antonio on lockdown after reported off-base shooting by 2 suspects

San Antonio, Texas –The air force base in San Antonio was closed on Wednesday afternoon, and police and military officials searched for two people suspected of firing at the base from the outside, air force officials said.

Officials at the San Antonio-Lackland joint base reportedly fired at the location where the base personnel were training before the two fled. No injuries or deaths were reported immediately, and authorities did not provide details of the suspect.

Lackland is where the Air Force does all the basic training.

The base issued a warning at noon, instructing all personnel at Luckland Air Force Base to blockade. A warning on Twitter said “real world, lockdown, lockdown, lockdown,” and a subsequent statement told staff to continue evacuating to the designated location.

Officials reported that the shooting took place west of the main base, just east of Interstate 410, near the Valley Highgate near the shopping center.

San Antonio police said they were supporting the situation, but referred questions to the base.
