Kings protect Doughty, Kopitar and Brown, but leave Quick exposed – Press Telegram

Prior to the roster freeze at the NHL on Saturday, trading surged and on Sunday each team created a list of protected players in the Expansion Draft to be held on Wednesday.

Kings was not involved in the deal on Saturday, but protected a total of 11 players from Seattle Kraken on Sunday. Kings has chosen a broader arrangement that can protect seven forwards, three defenses and one goalkeeper.

Of the four links to the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup, at least three will remain in LA after Wednesday. Defensive Drew Doughty had a no-movement clause mandating him to be protected. Center Anzecopter remains the most productive king while defensively fixing the team’s forwards. Unprotected in the 2017 Expansion Draft, Winger Dustin Brown was protected this time to ensure that the longest-lived king in franchise history remains in the club for at least another season.

The same guarantee was not given to another career king, goalkeeper, and 2012 Corn Smyth Trophy winner Jonathan Quick.

Winger’s Viktor Arvidsson, his latest arrival in Los Angeles, was one of the protected forwards.

Kings also protected defense Matt Roy and Sean Walker and transferred Rias Andeson, Alex Iafaro, Adrian Kempe and Trevor Moore.

In addition to Quick, young defensive Kale Cragyu and speedy winger Andreas Atanasiu (now a restricted free agent) remained exposed. Kraken’s potential is also Center Blake Rizotte, who has risen from a relatively ambiguous state to secure a place for the roster in each of the last two seasons. Defense Olli Marter, Winger Brendan Lemie, and Defense Christian Waranin all arrived in trade last season, but none were protected.

Clague remains the player most likely to be selected by Kraken because of his advantages and general desire for defense. As in 2017, when Vegas Golden Knights chose 30 players, Seattle should choose 14 forwards, 9 defenses and 3 goalkeepers. Vegas chose to use all four of the remaining selections for defense. This trend may continue on Wednesday.

In 22 NHL games, Club has scored 6 points and minus 9 in the last two seasons. At lower levels, he shows greater potential. In the final year of junior hockey, he launched a campaign with 47 points in 28 games, producing more than 0.5 points per game in the American Hockey League.
