Kilwinning: Stab threat thug told ex she had three days to live

A KILWINNING man has admitted threatening to machete his former partner of 10 years after telling her she had three days to live.

Darren Hibberd split from his ex in 2019 and the couple are now living separately, but the 56-year-old man turned up at the woman’s house and threatened her with violence on June 11 this year.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard last week that the victim returned home after a hospital stay and received a phone call from Hibberd at around 12.45pm.

The deputy prosecutor said: “He stated that he came to collect things that were left at his house. After a while he came and entered through the unlocked front door.

“She was sitting in the living room and he started shouting and swearing at her, calling her a ‘f*****g bitch’, a ‘liar’ and a ‘f*****g gold digger’.”

“He also said, ‘You have three days left to live, I will kill you.’ I have a machete with me.’

Hibberd, who is listed in court documents as a resident of Viewfield Manor Holiday Park, pleaded guilty to threatening and abusive behavior and a subsequent charge of breaching a court order.

The Fiscal Deputy added: “He was released on bail from his ex but at 9pm on June 14 he breached that condition by visiting the applicant’s property.

“He was standing by the living room window and the appellant made no effort to speak to him or acknowledge him, but she gestured for him to leave. He did not leave, and they again contacted the police.

“He was told she had Covid and he only got up for two seconds to check she was OK.”

Sentencing was adjourned until August 1 and Hibberd was released on bail and ordered not to contact her.
