Pennsylvania

John Feterman easily wins Democratic Senate race, Mastriano wins GOP governor race
Democratic Vice President John Feterman easily secured his party’s candidacy for an open seat in the Senate, despite being forced to abandon the campaign due to a stroke. The 52-year-old dropped out of the hospital immediately and later wrote on Twitter that he had successfully undergone surgery to install a pacemaker and that he was “well on his way to a full recovery”.

One of the biggest questions is who will compete with Fetterman in the fall.

Mehmet Oz, the famous Trump-certified heart surgeon, is locked up with former hedge fund manager David McCormick in a race that was too early to call on Wednesday morning.

The Pennsylvania Democrats also formally elected governor, handing over the nomination to second-year attorney general Josh Sapiro.

Shapiro had no objection to the anointing of the Democrats.

State Sen. Doug Mastriano – who secured late approval from Donald Trump and falsified the former president’s lies about a non-existent, widespread fraud that cost him the 2020 election – won the Republican nomination for Republican Tuesday.

Mastriano’s victory extends Trump’s winning streak in the Republican primary across the country. But it also raises immediate questions about whether Mastriano, who was out of the US Capitol in January 2021 when a mob seized him in a deadly uprising, can attract enough moderate voters to prevail in the November general election.

Cawthorn gained national prominence after winning the seat in 2020 at the age of 25. Conceptual and ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump, he had made the effortless political and personal mistakes that led top Republican leaders in North Carolina to turn against him.
