Kershaw, Ohtani set for showdown, starting lineups, TV info – Press Telegram

LOS ANGELES – All eyes will be on two of the region’s biggest baseball stars for the first All-Star Game release on Tuesday, when it returns to Dodger Stadium for the first time in 42 years.

Clayton Kershaw, three-time Dodgers Cy Young Award winner, gets his first outing in the All-Star for the National League in the 17.00 game (Ch. 11, 710 AM). Shohei Ohtani of Los Angeles will lead as the American League’s designated hitter for the second year in a row after opening on the mound and surpassing order last year in Denver.

Ohtani, a two-time All-Star and reigning AL MVP, remains a baseball unicorn: he bats .258 with 19 homers, 56 RBIs and 10 stolen bases while leading 9-4 with a 2.38 ERA as a pitcher (123 strikeouts). and 22 rides at 87 entrances). Still, Ohtani has 0 of 8 in his career as a hitter against Kershaw with four strikeouts, three and one double play.

“I don’t know how I got it out. I guess I’ll try to get it out again tomorrow and see what happens.” Kershaw said during Monday’s press conference.

Kershaw, nine-time All-Star, has a 7-2 record with an effectiveness of 2.14 and 75 strikeouts in 71-2 / 3 innings. The future Hall of Fame member is the Dodgers’ third pitcher to start in the last seven All-Star Games, after Zack Greinke (2015) and Hyun Jin Ryu (2019), and is the 13th pitcher to start at his baseball stadium, the first. since Max Scherzer did it in 2018 in Washington.

“He makes all the throws: he rarely loses his points, he rarely leaves the ball in the middle of the plate,” Ohtani, 28, said of Kershaw. “Every release you make is really quality.”

The Dodgers (and their fans) have been wanting to host this game for decades, but seeing one of their franchise icons confront Babe Ruth in the 21st century to start the festivities might be worth the wait.
