Kaiser High School senior who will attend MIT receives prestigious Gates Scholarship | News

Kaiser High School senior Amitoj Lobana – an outstanding 16-year-old student-athlete with a passion for helping others – has been recognized as a Gates 2022 researcher, an honor bestowed on 300 students in the country.

Lobana, who climbed two levels before entering the Kaiser, has also won a full scholarship to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He plans to study computer science and pursue his goal of bringing a better quality of life to underrepresented communities.

“The Gates Scholarship is one of the many blessings I have been fortunate enough to receive,” Lobana said. “I am inspired to show my gratitude by pursuing postgraduate studies and giving back to the world everything I can.”

Lobana follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Jashandeep, a 2019 Kaiser Class graduate who received a 2019 Gates Scholarship and is continuing his education at Johns Hopkins University.

Lobana has maintained an average grade of 4.95 while manipulating extracurricular programs including tennis and cross-country, National Honor Society, Key Club, Link Crew and Spanish Club, as well as devoting her free time to community volunteering – a practice introduced to him by his family.

He has also won gold medals in science at the Academic Decathlon at the county level, silver at the state level and gold at the national level.
