Jesse Williams Finally Explains Why He Left Grey’s Anatomy

Gray’s anatomy looks much less handsome today.

And Jesse Williams is finally here to explain why.

About 10 months ago, fans of this beloved ABC drama learned that the actor left the show after 12 years as a character in Jackson Avery.

Krista Vernoff, the producer / showrunner in charge of Grey’s Anatomy, confirmed the same to Deadline at the time.

“Jesse Williams is an exceptional artist and activist. Tracking his progress over the past 11 years, both on and off screen, has been a real gift, ”Vernoff said in a statement in May 2021.

“Jesse brings so much heart, deep care and so much intelligence to her work.

– We will miss Jesse terribly and we will miss Jackson Avery – who has been played to perfection for so many years.

Williams last appeared in the May 20, 2021 episode, during which Jackson decided to move to Boston to take over his family’s foundation.

Later, however, it took all this time for Williams to explain his departure in a little thorough and detailed.

Speaking to The New York Times this week, Williams said he felt “increasingly safer, protected and isolated” in a series created by Shonda Rhimes.

“I knew that when I was planning my exit, the next thing was to be scary,” he continued, adding:

“I had to get out of my comfort zone, I had to go to a very unfamiliar place.”

The Muti-talented star previously directed episodes of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and also produced Two Distant Strangers, which won an Oscar for live action in 2021.

Now he’s ready to star in the upcoming Broadway revival at Take Me Out, a Tony winner from a baseball player who comes out gay.

Williams plays the lead.

The production is a completely different project for Williams, who during the anatomy of Gray received widespread praise for how hard he worked and how closely he followed other Actors to learn from them.

“No one has worked as hard as he does. No one,” former actress Sarah Drew told E! News a while ago.

However, he will be working in another field in the near future.

“I’m here to do things I’ve never done before,” Williams told The New York Times.

“I have one life to know. It’s going to be fine.”

After giving his own statement to Deadline last May, Williams said:

I is forever grateful for the limitless The opportunities Shonda has to offer menetwork, studio, actresses, our amazing team, Krista, Ellen and Debbie.

As an actor, director and human being, I have been immodestly lucky to learn so much from so many and thank our beautiful fans who breathe so much energy and appreciation into our common worlds.

The experience and endurance that has resulted from the creation of nearly 300 hours of leading global television is a gift I always have with me.

I am extremely proud of our work, our impact, and the fact that I can move forward with so many tools, opportunities, allies, and dear friends. ”
