Over the weekend, fans rejoiced at the news that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had tied the knot in a small private ceremony in Las Vegas.
The wedding was prepared for 20 years, as the couple started dating already in 2002.
They first got engaged in 2003 and called off their wedding with four days’ notice “due to too much media attention”.
Ben and Jen parted ways in 2004 to start families with other partners, but they found their way back to each other in April last year, and late on Saturday night they finally exchanged vows.
As two of the most famous people on the planet, Ben and Jen are understandably protective of their privacy.
But it seems the A-listers are so blissfully happy with their new status as husband and wife that they couldn’t keep their joy to themselves.
Jen first shared the news with her fans through her On the JLo newsletter.
Now this wasn’t a big budget celebrity wedding – in fact Ben and Jen shot the wedding themselves.
But the couple’s blurry wedding selfies contain as much joy as any professional wedding photos we’ve ever seen.
And it seems the afterglow was just as sweet as the event itself, as evidenced by this makeup-free photo of newlywed Mrs. Affleck flaunting her wedding ring in bed the next morning.
And according to Jen’s ceremony photography, the wedding was just as charmingly unadorned as she is in this photo.
“So with the best witnesses you can imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our vows in a small chapel and gave each other the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” she wrote to fans.
“They even had Bluetooth for a (short) march. But at the end of the day, it was the best possible wedding we could imagine,” Jen continued.
“One that we dreamed of a long time ago, and the other was realized (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, a pink convertible and another) for a very, very long time.”
The witnesses Jen was talking about were her twins and Ben’s three children, all of whom were present – and are said to be excited about their new sex families.
Lopez noted that the wedding almost didn’t happen because she and Ben were late arriving at the chapel.
“They kindly stayed open late for a few minutes,” she wrote.
“Let’s take pictures in a pink Cadillac convertible that was once used by the King himself (but if we wanted Elvis himself to appear, it cost extra and he was in bed).”
Despite missing King’s cameo, it sounds like Ben and Jen’s special night was pretty much perfect.
Interestingly, Jen signed her message to fans “Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”
We’re sure she’ll use this new moniker in her personal life, but don’t expect fans and the media to change the way they view JLo.
There are very few downsides to one of the most iconic names on the planet, but one of them is that you’re pretty much stuck with it for the rest of your life.
Our sincere congratulations to the happy couple on their long-delayed wedding.
