A FORMER toilet unit in a parking lot in Irvine is planned to be turned into a takeaway hot food department after the plans were approved by the North Ayrshire Council.
The abandoned building at the East Road car park was previously used as a public facility, but has now been given permission to convert it into a food and beverage outlet.
The building had not been used for more than five years, and applicant David Monroe said it would “become a sore eye in what would otherwise be a living and well-kept area”.
In a statement supporting the application, he added: “The area would benefit greatly from the redevelopment and revitalization of the structure.
“The relatively remote location (from any sensitive to trouble buildings and premises) used by the building is ideal for delivering hot food that can benefit from the high levels of pedestrian traffic created due to parking and walking routes through the site . ».
