Irvine: Meadow take the trophy in Kilbirnie invitational tourney

IRVINE Meadow took home the silver after winning the James ‘Hammy’ Glenn Invitational in Kilbirnie at the weekend.

Medda kicked off the competition with a relatively easy 3-1 win against Greenock Morton U-20s on Saturday.

They face Kilbirnie in Sunday’s final, who won 5-2 at Dalry in their first match.

The game proved to be a tight affair with both sides close in the first half and the clubs defending well.

The Medd keeper saved a penalty in the second half but it was Kilbirnie who continued to press and finally went ahead with a quick strike.

It wasn’t long before Meadow’s goal tied the game at 1-1.

There was very little to choose between the two Ayrshire teams and in the end it all came down to spot kicks.
