Inmate death at Santa Clara County Jail under investigation

MILPITAS — Investigators are investigating the death of an inmate at a county jail housing unit this week, officials said.

San Jose police arrested a 65-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault, according to a statement Friday night by a spokesperson for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department. detained. child.

Shortly before 2:05 p.m. on Thursday, a deputy conducting a welfare inspection at the county’s Elmwood Jail found the man unresponsive in the cell he was being held in.

Paramedics and Milpitas Fire Department firefighters arrived at 2:15 pm and took the man to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:52 pm. His identity has not been disclosed and notification of his next of kin is pending.
