Indian giant Tata Group to debut super app on April 7 – TechCrunch

Indian conglomerate Tata Group plans to unveil its long-awaited “super app” called TataNeu on April 7, the company announced on its App and Play Store pages.

Years in the making, TataNeu is riddled with lag and buggy performance. It’s the salt-to-software giant’s attempt to go head-to-head with rivals like American e-commerce group Amazon and local billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms, which have hit new heights over the past decade, while Tata is venturing onto older ones businesses concentrated.

The app Unite multiple Tata Group services Including some such as Online grocer BigBasket and E-Pharmacy Platform 1Mg that the company has acquired in recent years. TataNeu will also offer users the ability to send money and pay broadband, electricity, water and satellite TV bills and secure loans, TechCrunch previously reported.

Tata hopes customers will find the one-stop shop offering and rewards high enough to make the bold switch. Tata plans to offer them “NeuCoins” as a reward, with one NeuCoin equaling one Indian rupee.

The company, which has been testing TataNeu with tens of thousands of its employees for several quarters, plans to eventually phase out various group unit loyalty offers from BigBasket, 1mg and other services and replace them with NeuCoins, TechCrunch previously reported.

Rewards is a key focus for Tata Group as it seeks to build a ‘connection layer’ for its services, which operate across a variety of categories. If successful, the 155-year-old giant could set up the largest loyalty program in the country.

The company has also worked with several investors – including the company SoftBank confirmed to the Indian newspaper Economic Times – to raise capital for his newfound engineering ambitions.

TechCrunch reported in February that Tata was getting closer to launching the app. We also got an up-to-date build of the app and access to the service.

Of our first impression:

Despite the delays, TataNeu looks far from modern, and the company’s executives are still trying to figure out how to win customers over to the super app, according to two people familiar with the matter and materials provided to TechCrunch became.

[…] But the app is comically buggy, terribly slow, and the integrations just point to various Tata services via an in-app browser — sometimes using the desktop view on a phone.
