‘Incident’ puts Mall of America on lockdown; videos show people fleeing

Security at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota confirmed the mall was on lockdown as they worked with police to gather more information about what was described as an “active incident” at the mall. Mall of America described the incident as “isolated” in a “tenant space.”

Security advised mall patrons to remain in a safe location until 2019 the lock has been removed.

Bloomington Police were on the scene Thursday evening after videos posted on social media showed people at the mall running to safety, confused as to why the crowd was running.

Mall of America responded to a Twitter user input“Mall of America is on lockdown. Please stay where you are until the lockdown is lifted.”

Bloomington Police released a statement on Twitter just before 6 p.m to write“We are currently working on an active incident inside the Mall of America Northwest. There are numerous officers on the scene. We will update as we have more information.”

Videos shared on social media Thursday showed chaos inside the mall and near parking lots as customers fled, with many looking back in disbelief as to why the crowd was scrambling for the exits.

A Twitter user posted this video of police cars entering the mall after they saw customers standing in the mall without an emergency exit.

Mall of America security initially could only confirm that there was an “incident” and that security was working with Bloomington Police to “gather more information” about the security situation, but the mall was locked down and people were told to leave immediately. .

Calls to the Bloomington Police Department were not immediately returned.

A Twitter user shared a video showing police officers carrying rifles at the mall.
