In drought-ravaged California, water use is up dramatically

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) – California’s water use jumped about 19% in March.

State officials said it was the most water used in a month since 2015.

Gov. Gavin Newsom told residents last year to use 15% less water in the midst of a major drought. Since July, the state has cut its water use by only 3.7%.

Newsom responded to the news by pledging to spend another $ 26 million on water conservation projects. He added the $ 190 million he expected in January.

In Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti has advised residents and businesses to reduce offshore water from three days every week to two.
