A Newport Beach home is dangerously close to tumbling off a cliff after the ground beneath it collapsed Friday morning.
The multi-million dollar home is red-tagged, and two other nearby homes are also in jeopardy.
Emergency services responded around 10:26 a.m. to the Galaxy Drive neighborhood overlooking the Newport Back Bay area.
Sky5 images show the backyard of a house completely destroyed by a landslide, leaving only portions of the cement surrounding the structure.
Neighbors are concerned and apprehensive about the future ground stability of the area.
The main affected house was tagged red and the houses on either side were tagged yellow. One of her neighbors voluntarily evacuated while the second house was vacant for construction.
“It breaks my heart to think of them,” said neighbor Ursula Breger.
The cause of the landslide is under investigation. No one was injured in the landslide.
“We are all waiting to hear back from the geologists,” Braeger said. “I’ve checked it out before and I think it’s something all of us who live here are used to. The fire department said it could have been coming from below.
