After a three-game losing streak, the Los Angeles Dodgers (34-17) overtook the New York Mets (35-18) to secure a 2-0 victory. The victory puts the Dodgers at the top of the National League
It was a pitcher duel between Dodgers star Tony Gonsolin and the Mets’ Taijuan Walker for the first four innings. At the bottom of the heel, right-hander Mookie Betts hit RBI single in the center field, placing the Dodgers on the board.
In the next inning, third baseman Justin Turner scored the ball deep into the right field, allowing Trea Turner to score.
This game marks the tenth start for Gonsolin. He made six innings, allowing only two hits and hitting five.
“He’s really good, these things have always been there,” Trea said. “The current figures are really good. It’s just a matter of going deeper into the games and he’s starting to do that. “
Knowing that both the Mets and the Dodgers have the best NL records, Gonsolin is worried. Confidence in his abilities is the way he works to be more effective.
“I was a little nervous if I had to do it, just knowing they were a good insult,” Gonsolin said. “Overall, they are a good top-down offensive team.”
Roberts noted how Gonsolin’s pass was effective during the match.
“I just think he was in control of his entire field,” Roberts said. “The speedball team was there just to keep them honest, and then there’s a punch when you need it.”
Turner reached a series of 25 strikes during that match. In four bats he made one hit and one RBI.
“I just think that if he keeps his position, he stays in the strike zone,” said Dodger general manager Dave Roberts. “If he can do that, it’s going to be hard to get him out.”
Left fielder Chris Taylor received two hits and one run on three bats.
“When I swing, I move up and forward, which is great,” Taylor said. “For a while, I had the feeling that I would swing and be surprised if I made contact.”
The Dodgers held the Mets to three hits and hit six batteries. Walker made 5.2 innings and made only two outs.
The series of four games continues on June 3 at the Dodgers Stadium from 19:10.
