High school football team helps a neighbor in need

RED OAK, Iowa (KMTV) – Many teenagers would not choose to spend the morning working in the yard, but a team of high school footballers jumped at the chance to help a fan who needed it.

One Saturday morning, instead of sleeping there, the Red Oak Tigers worked at a home in Red Oak, Iowa.

The team cleared the bushes and leaves, as well as Dennis Jones ’garden.

“I’ve been worried about my garden and all that stuff since the beginning of spring and I usually have this yard pretty well cared for,” Jones said.

Jones, who lives with his wife, is proud to keep the grass in order. Recent events have made it difficult for him to keep up.

“We’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues with my wife since February and she’s still not fully overcome, so I was trying to guess when I would have time to do all this,” Jones said.

Jones ’daughter worked with the team coach to arrange a cleanup of Jones’ team surprise.

“I’m absolutely amazed and totally appreciate this,” Jones said.

Coach Michael Nordeen said community service is a priority for his team.

“Since March 24, we have had a 250-hour social service provided by our football team,” Nordeen said. “We’re trying to build people in the tournament and brighten our future for Red Oak.”

The team is proud to be back in their community, especially when they come across a big fan.

“[The Jones’] he came to help and they helped us throughout the year, so it feels good to help them, ”said footballer Logan Conn.

Nordeen also said the Jones family has deep roots in the Red Oak football community.

Dennis ’daughter, Brandi, was the first female football player in high school.
