Here’s where you can find free summer meals for kids in San Diego County

More than 160 locations across San Diego County offer free breakfast, lunch or snacks for anyone 18 and under this summer.

There are more than 241,000 K-12 public school students in San Diego County who are at a disadvantage, and many of them rely on schools for free meals. From this autumn, breakfast and lunch will be free for all public school students in the transitional kindergarten up to 12th grade, regardless of whether their family income qualifies for free meals, under state law signed last year.

Until then, the San Diego Unified School District and the non-profit Feeding San Diego are among those offering free meals to children while schools are closed in the summer. All dining areas, except military premises, are open to anyone new, no matter where they are registered.

You can find more than 160 sites offering free meals at this link: https://bit.ly/3OANXWv.

Other schools also offer free meals, but only to students enrolled in that district or school.

Most dining areas are open from Monday to Friday.

Anyone can also send a “food” or “comida” message to 877-877 to find a free dining area nearby, according to Feeding San Diego.

The following are free meal sites that are open to all children:
