Things seem to have turned around for the better for Locklear, who had fallen into substance abuse that resulted in several brushes with the law and a stint in a mental health facility in recent years.

She returned to the small screen last October with the lead role in the Lifetime TV movie, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story, her first project in almost five years.

The former Melrose Place star played Kristine Carlson, co-author of the best-selling book Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, which she co-wrote with her husband Dr. Richard Carlson.

The film follows Kristine as she deals with the unexpected death of Richard, 45, in 2006.

Appearing on Good Morning America to promote the film late last year, Locklear explained how she knew this particular project was the right role for her return to Hollywood – especially after she had previously said she was not sure she was would work again.

“It was pretty easy. I did not want to do anything stupid. I wanted to do something that had its weight, ‘she said.

Add: ‘And I pray to God that whatever comes on my lap, I wish it would be spiritual.’

‘It was weird and it landed me in the lap. It’s all about loss and recovery and coming back from a loss and I just love the depth. I love the books and I love Kris [Kristine]. ‘

Heather said of her first meeting with Kristine: ‘The first time I met Kristine, we spent the night at her home. And then she came for my 60th birthday and stayed with me. She is now one of my best friends, ‘she said Folk.

She noted that Kristine’s story was’ about love and loss’, adding: ‘I think we may have been simplified during the pandemic. It’s about living in the moment. And it’s really about love. ‘

The star has recently celebrated two and a half years of sobriety; she is engaged to her high school sweetheart Chris Heisser.

In June 2020, DailyMail.com broke the exciting news that three years after re-establishing her relationship with her high school sweetheart, she accepted Chris’ proposal.

The duo had graduated from high school together in 1979, but parted ways but were on and off as they struggled with drug abuse.

Heather then married rockers Tommy Lee, 58, from 1986 to 1993 and Richie Sambora, 61, from 1994 to 2007, with whom she has a daughter, Ava, 24.

Chris was successful as an AMA motocross racer, and a contractor, he is also married and divorced, and has four children.

They reconnected in 2017, with Heather posting a photo of herself in bed on her Instagram account in September of that year with the caption: ‘My favorite person on earth. 40 years later. ‘

However, Heather’s struggle with addiction almost derailed the romance.

She was arrested on February 25, 2018 after she was to fight with Chris and attacks by the police officers who responded to the 911 call her brother Mark made to her home.

More than a year later, she pleaded ‘no match’ for prosecutors escaping that arrest and was sentenced to 30 days in a mental health residential area.

The couple got engaged in April 2020, after Heather had completed a full year of sobriety.
