Missing California dog found 1,600 miles from home in Kansas

Sandra O’Neal’s dog Zeppelin disappeared from her Sacramento home over a year ago. She never stopped looking for him, she says, and she never gave up her hope that he would come home.

She realized she had driven past where she had last seen him, pray for his returnshe told KCTV.

“I said, ‘I hope I can come home one day,'” she told the outlet.

A woman from a rural Kansas town found Zeppelin in a meadow on her property and took him to the veterinarian’s office the next day to have his microchip scanned, KCTV reported. His microchip indicated he was thousands of miles from home.

“When they told me he was in Kansas, i was shocked‘” O’Neill told KTXL.

A German Shepherd mix went missing in October 2021. Before he went missing, she told the outlet that Zeppelin would visit a construction worker near his house and give him food, water, and treats. I told him I was going home, but one day he didn’t show up at all.

“Then there were a few tears,” Mary Hastings told the outlet about hearing Zeppelin’s story. She offered to take him back to California with him.

“It’s okay,” she told the dog’s owner, according to CBS News. “You’ll have him by Christmas.”
